Fostering a love of reading and its rewards, the Barnes & Noble Imagination's Destination Summer Reading Program is popular with students in first through sixth grades and educators throughout America.
Participation is a fun and easy way for kids to earn free books. They simply read any eight books – library books, books borrowed from friends or books bought at Barnes & Noble – write about their favorite part in our Reading Journal, and bring a completed Reading Journal to a Barnes & Noble bookstore. Children then choose their free book from the books listed on the Reading Journal and collect their free book from a store near them.
This year, Barnes & Noble celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Summer Reading Program with a special Summer Reading Triathlon that kicked off with an “Opening Ceremony” at all stores nationwide June 4. Between June 4 and August 21, young readers could vote for their favorite heroes and places from a selection of contenders curated by B&N booksellers. At the “Closing Ceremony” August 27, kids found out which favorite hero and place took home the gold, silver and bronze medal for their local store. View the press release for more information.
